Class of 2016

Raniel Alayon, Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering

Philippine Aeronautic Technical School, Magna Cum Laude


Raniel graduated as a valedictorian in his class at Sta. Elena High School in 2011. His childhood dream was always to become a pilot. That was the reason why although he was accepted at University of the Philippines, he decided to enroll at Philippine Aeronautical Technical School with a full tuition fee scholarship from the school. However, he also needed to pay for his board and lodging at the school. COED provided that financial assistance which helped him graduate on time in March 2015 as a Magna Cum Laude. After graduation, he was offered a job at Lufthansa Airlines as a mechanic but he declined the offer after the Philippine Air Force offered him a one-year training as Officer then the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a pilot. Raniel graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant of the Philippine Air Force in December 2016 after an 18-month long training. He is now undergoing additional training as a pilot in the Philippine Air Force.

Arvin Monte, Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering

University of the Philippines


Arvin graduated as a Salutatorian from Sta. Elena High School in 2011. When he started his college education at the University of the Philippines, he pursued Electrical Engineering but after his freshman year, he decided to pursue Geodetic Engineering. While he attended school, he also worked as a tutor for students who wanted to get into college at the University of the Philippines. He worked because he wanted to be able to help in their household expenses. He is the first child to graduate from a university and attain a college degree. Although he had a challenging 5-year in college, he has graduated and is now working for the Philippine Government. He has also passed his Geodetic Engineering Board exam. He is now officially Engineer Arvin Monte and is currently working as an engineer for a biotechnology company in Cavite, Philippines.

Juvelyn Nierves, Bachelor of Arts in History

University of the Philippines, Cum Laude


Juvelyn graduated with honors from Parang High School in March 2011. She was one of COED's first five scholars. During her freshman year at University of the Philippines (UP), Los Banos, her major course of study was Chemistry. After her freshman year being away from her family in Manila, she decided to pursue her education at UP Diliman so she can be closer to home. With very young siblings at that time, her family needed her to also take care of her siblings. She also decided to pursue Education as her major with an emphasis on History. Aside from going to school, Juvelyn also pursued her love of dancing by joining the UP Dance Sport Team and competed in various dance competitions in Metro Manila. Juvelyn successfully finished her college education and graduated in December 2015 with a Cum Laude. She currently works for the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and is assigned to the Rizal Museum at Fort Santiago.

Rogelio Operana, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy

University of the East


Rogelio graduated with honors at Parang High School in 2011. He was abandoned by his mother as an infant and was raised by his Aunt. After high school, he went to the University of the East and pursued a major in accounting. He consistently performed really well in school and COED continued to follow his progress through school. During his junior year, he was recruited as an intern by KPMG, an international accounting firm. He received training for the whole summer in 2015 and they paid for his transportation and a small stipend for his internship. They were very impressed with his performance that they offered him a position, contingent to his passing his CPA exam. Rogelio passed his CPA exam last October 2016. COED assisted him in taking review classes for 6 months to ensure his success. After being successful in his CPA exam, he assured COED that he will serve as the coordinator for our students so he can help mentor them and also recruit new students for the school year 2018-2019.

Harold Simeon, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering

Polytechnic University of the Philippines


Harold graduated from Sta. Elena High School in 2011 and pursued a college degree in computer engineering at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Harold was so shy when he started college and had some very interesting experiences when he was going to school. As a sophomore at PUP, he worked part time to help augment his financial needs and also to be able to help his family. He repaired computers, karaoke machines and other technology equipment which also helped him improve his skills on computer hardware. He is currently employed as a computer programmer for a start-up software company and continues to learn new programming languages in his job.

Vanessa Sofia Aguilar, Bachelor of Science in Statistics

University of the Philippines, Los Banos


Vanessa graduated high school from Sta. Elena High School in Marikina, Metro Manila. She ranked third in her graduating class in the Science, Technology and Engineering Program. She describes herself as someone who has profound skills in mathematics and that is the reason for her pursuing a degree in Statistics with a major in actuarial science. She completed her education UP at Los Banos and graduated in June 2019. She stated "thank you so much for choosing me as a COED scholar. I wouldn't be here without your help and support especially for the words of wisdom you taught us. Thank you so much again."

Paula Aguirre, Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication

Polytechnic University of the Philippines


Paula graduated from Sta. Elena High School in 2015. She was ranked second in her graduating class in the Special Program in the Arts and was highly recommended by her teachers. She and pursued a degree in Broadcast Communication at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and successfully graduated in 2019. She sincerely thanks COED and all our sponsors and supporters for helping her achieve her dream of a better future by completing her college education. She continues to keep in touch with all the COED alumni and students.

Kiara Jobell Patron, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy

Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Cum Laude


Kiara graduated also from Sta. Elena High School and ranked second in the Special Program for the Arts. Her teachers described her as someone who is friendly, cheerful and dependable. She currently pursued a major in accountancy because she loves mathematics and enjoys learning new math topics. While in school, she competed at several mathematical contests between various universities in Metro Manila and won numerous awards as a group and individually. She graduated on Polytechnic University of the Philippines with a degree in B.S. Accountancy and received the honor of a Cum Laude in the class of 2019. She thanks COED and all our sponsors and supporters for giving her the opportunity and she dedicates all her awards to COED.

Ryan Centeno, B.S. Electronics Engineering

Polytechnic University of the Philippines


Ryan graduated with honors from Parang High School and pursued a degree in Electronics Engineering. Ryan applied for COED scholarship during his sophomore year at PUP because his family could no longer afford his education and he was going to quit school to work and make a living to support the family. With COED's help, he was able to resume his studies and finished his degree. He graduated in May 2020 but because of Covid, all Board examinations were postponed to 2021. He is now currently reviewing for his upcoming Board exams.

Jobelle Nierves, B.S. Biology

Polytechnic University of the Philippines


Jobelle graduated with a degree in BS Biology and is now working for a biotechnology firm in Manila. She is now able to help her parents finance her 6 other siblings who are going to school and hopefully also pursue college education.

Mary Joyce Delos Santos, B.A. Business Admin

PolyTechnic University of the Philippines


MJ as she is fondly called, graduated with a degree in business administration and currently works for a call center in Manila. She is now able to help her family and her siblings pursue college degrees.

Ela Zaragoza, B.S. Accountancy

Polytechnic University of the Philippines


Ela graduated at PUP with a degree in BS Accountancy and took her Certified Public Accountant Board Exam early in 2023 and she passed it. She is now working for KPMG, Philippines and is on her way to achieving her career goals as a CPA.

Joshua Jose, B.S. Electrical Engineering

Joshua graduated with a degree in BS Electrical Engineering in 2022 and took his Engineering Board Exam in 2023. He also passed his Board exam and is now a licensed Electrical Engineer. He is now pursuing his career goals.

Joshua graduated with honors from Sta. Elena High School. During High School, he was an excellent student and volunteered to help other students who struggled in Math and Science. He decided to pursue his degree at the University of the Philippines Diliman because it ranked in the top 5 schools in Civil Engineering.
